Emma has had a passion for animals her entire life and is living the dream as a dog trainer! After rescuing a sweet, but traumatized dog, named Sugar, she dedicated her time and resources to Sugar’s rehabilitation. Her passion met career when she was accepted as an intern into the Behavior and Training Department at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley in Boulder, Colorado in 2011. There she worked on behavior modification of shelter dogs, one of the most difficult groups because of their history of trauma. From intern to full-time employee at the shelter, Emma has handled and managed dogs, as well as helped prospective pet owners find their best match dog through the adoption process. Emma is a certified Training Partner of the Karen Pryor Academy, Boulder, Colorado and has utilized her training supervising dog daycare play groups and training pre-adoption dogs and daycare dogs.
Emma’s career path started with Sugar who introduced her to what was possible.

Who needs training: you or your dog? The answer is: both! Training is communication. You and your dog both need to be “speaking” the same language in order for communication to be effective. Most dog owners inadvertently give their dogs poor commands and mixed messages, or they are inconsistent and actually encourage bad behavior without ever realizing it. Participating in training and dog-centered, structured activities with your dog helps you learn how to properly communicate with your dog under the guidance of a professional trainer, and you can enjoy the company of your dog at the same time. The end result is a more responsive, better-behaved dog with whom you have an even stronger bond.
